The Song of Feelings
We’ve all experienced it. That moment when a simple collection of words, maybe just one line from a poem we read or a poetic comment on a reel doesn’t just pass through our mind, but resonates deep within.
People share their thoughts, feelings, and creativity with others. Sometimes, what someone expresses through words, art, or actions resonates so deeply that it becomes part of our own experience and stays with us long after the moment has passed.
Think of a poem. Not just a collection of rhyming lines, but a carefully crafted bouquet of emotions. When a poet pours their soul onto the page, choosing each word with careful intent, they’re not just writing; they’re in a world of feelings. And when those words find their way into our heart, we feel it like a warm blanket or a sudden, sharp intake of breath.
Poets share their emotions with the world, and somehow they make someone else’s heart lighter or heavier too.
Feelings belong to everyone. Some write them, some read them.
There are many kinds of poems, or should I say, many kinds of feelings.
Poets achieve;
Poets think;
Poets are we.
The true essence of some poetry lies in its ability to capture a complex emotion, often a dual one and make it intensely felt.
O Captain! My Captain! by Walt Whitman which is a perfectly blend of triumph and personal grief, and its message has stayed with me ever since:
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
Some poems demand the full understanding of literature to grasp the essence of it, where as some can be enjoyed by everyone with basic literature knowledge.
We don’t need to be a famous poet to touch someone’s life. Think of a common person who writes simple, honest words as a side hobby — maybe in their diary, in a letter, or in an online post.
Think of this way
- When a friend writes a short poem about a rainy day in their story that perfectly captures your own feeling of coziness, it means more than reading something heavy from a English text book. It’s a direct, honest connection.
- It Becomes a Memory: We all have little things we keep forever. It might be silly wishes our friends sang to us on our birthdays, or a little poem a friend wrote about you. These aren’t perfect works, but they are priceless because they are tied to a specific person and a specific moment in your life. They can be remembered for a lifetime.
The truth is, everyone has feelings, but not the ability to express them correctly. But when a “common person” decides to put those feelings into words, even with imperfect rhythm, they are doing the exact same thing a renowned poet is doing. And sometimes, that simple, honest piece is exactly what another soul needs to feel less alone.
The greatest poems are simply the most honest ones.
